Our Mission

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Mass Spiritz is dedicated to giving disenfranchised artists access to resources, opportunities and funding through our collaborative music incubation program and event production. Curating moments and cultivating perception in our culture that will be captured, preserved, appreciated and valued throughout the ages.  Mass Spiritz provides access to music studios, music production, and video production at discounted rates. We believe artists deserve affordable access to these resources as well as fair compensation through live performances. Ultimately our mission is to achieve equitable access for artists of all economic classes, racial ethnicities and backgrounds through grant funding and charitable donations. Establishing a musical identity for the State of Massachusetts that will last a lifetime.

Our Story

Mass Spiritz started as a vision. Inspired by the iconic Soulquarian movement, a Neo-soul supergroup of the late 90's and early 2000s centered on collaboration: Founder Terry Borderline and Co-Founder Sassy D'estany noticed every grand movement starts with an iconic moment. But what was Massachusett's moment? What was Massachusetts grand movement?

On every Massachusetts license plate is the motto "The Spirit of America" -- If Massachusetts is the spirit of America, what is the spirit of Massachusetts? Terry Borderline argued, the spirit of Massachusetts is it's artists, and creatives.  From these very questions Mass Spiritz was born.  A movement driven by iconic moments, captured and shared for the world to perceive and value. A project composed of the creatives that are the spirit of Massachusetts! Through collaborative music incubation and the consistent capturing of beautiful moments a fingerprint of the Massachusetts sound can be defined, preserved and shared with the world.

Most importantly, the only way to achieve this capture of the Massachusetts sound and identity is by providing resources, access, and funding to the very creatives the fuel this vibrant music scene. This distinct purpose of capturing moments and providing funding and access to creatives has created a formula designed to produce positive impact in disenfranchised communities who were never given the chance to shine.

The first iteration: Mass Spiritz Vol. 1 was self-funded, and with the charitable help of the Sound Lab Recording in Brockton MA, and Phoenix Down in Somerville MA was able to recruit 29 artists and producers to create a 3 track EP in Fall 2023. The success of Vol. 1 gave Founders Terry Borderline and Sassy D'estany the confidence to go a second round. in Spring 2024 Mass Spiritz Vol. 2 was funded by the Iguana Passim Grant, Brockton LCC grant and MCC grant allowing for the recruiting of 16 artists and producers to create the biggest iteration of Mass Spiritz yet. A 6 Track album, that now coincided with 3 music videos, over 12 live performances and dozens of milestones shared across various creatives both experienced and novice.

Since, Mass Spiritiz has been officially registered as a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization empowering artists through grant and charitably funded ventures to continue is incubation program series and collaborative series.
